Md. Lawmakers aim to close loopholes in state moped laws

Since passage of the law that requires a driver's license to operate a moped or motor scooter, Delegate Pamela Beidle has heard some concerns from police officers about a loophole in the law.

"The law doesn't say valid driver's license, so the courts are accepting suspended or revoked driver's licenses when the intent of the bill was to be valid driver's license," said Beidle, D-32-Anne Arundel County.

To align the letter of the law with its spirit, Beidle has introduced a bill this year to add minimum insurance coverage and Maryland registration as requirements. ...
