Life in the country: There's nothing like the down-home eatery

There are places in our lives that are dear to us. Home, the familiarity of a house of worship, the barber shop, hair salon, a bar, even mingling with a routine group at a fast food restaurant are places of comfort.

Over the years there were a number of places that I thought I would like to frequent when I retired, places where I could really bask in the glow of Eastern Shore congeniality and flavor. Then, one by one, they have faded away. At this stage in life and career, I am concerned that all the best local places will be gone by the time I qualify to enjoy them.
