In terms of how we treat our returning military veterans, we've come a long way since World War II.
Serving in World War II, which seems to be the gold standard in so many ways, led to opportunities in education, home ownership and more. Returning on a wave of patriotism and flush with victory, when the so-called Greatest Generation came marching home, a grateful country couldn't do enough to help them. With help from the GI Bill, these ex-soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines bought homes, attended college, married, worked and raised families in what were arguably the most prosperous decades ...
