Bank branch starts anew, 40 years later

When Bank of Ocean City's 59th Street branch opened, the poured-concrete structure, built more like a bomb shelter than a bank branch, was as modern as could be. At an open house on May 5, 1972, the bank handed out door prizes like a color TV, a stereo tape deck, and an electric knife.

But over time, the wiring went sour, the insulation proved lousy, and the staff outgrew the building. They've spent five years planning to replace it, and now the bank will open a replacement building in the same mid-town location, exactly 40 years later.
