With movie technology evolving from film reels to digital, the Clayton Theatre is being forced to adjust.
Movie studios in recent years have been transitioning from reel films to digital and will soon cease to produce the former. For venues such as the Clayton Theatre, which has used a 35mm film projector to play films since its 1949 opening, that will pose a problem.
It's a $80,000-$100,000 problem, according to owner Joann Howe. Without the digital projection equipment, the theater would no longer be able to run new, first-run films, and that's the ballpark estimate to purchase it. ...
