CHERITON Congregants entering the sanctuary of the Full Gospel Church in Cheriton on Sunday morning likely noticed the handsome, 60-something stranger sitting in a pew halfway up the aisle.

Although they had never met, most likely recognized the visitor as Erik Estrada, the Hollywood actor best known for his role as highway patrol officer Frank Poncherello in the hit television series CHiPS, which aired from 1977 to 1983.

Estrada, who said his first career aspiration was to be a police officer, is now a Bedford County, Va., deputy and has joined forces with the Safe Surfin' Foundation and ...
